Rising above the LA skyline as a 37-story, L-shaped tower atop an eight-story podium, this architectural beacon embodies the essence of the city. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant local culture and the allure of Hollywood, the design of the interiors pays homage to the very fabric that makes Los Angeles unique.
Within the Moxy hotel project, the design concept was to craft an oasis for weary travelers who embark on long motorcycle journeys through the captivating desert. Our lighting design concept focused on accentuating the lobby's remarkable artwork and unique features, such as a rammed earth wall that mimics monumental desert rocks. We developed gentle illumination to vertically define the space and allow the artwork to take center stage without overwhelming the design.
Collaborating closely with the ownership and operational teams, we designed comprehensive lighting scenes tailored to different times of the day. Overcoming challenges posed by surrounding buildings and a large video advertisement screen, we carefully balanced internal light levels with the external surroundings, ensuring a seamless transition that captivates guests.
Adhering to California's strict energy code requirements, we partnered with Lutron to implement intelligent programming. This technology triggers lighting scenes based on occupancy and time of day, enabling energy efficiency while prioritizing the well-being and experience of the hotel guests.
